I am here because I believe in creating and being a part of nurturing spaces that allow individuals to grow, learn, and contribute to the world.

I am Shiferaw Gizaw, and my journey has been deeply rooted in the creation of safe spaces - spaces where possibilities bloom, where the innate wisdom of every individual can be nurtured. My earliest memories are filled with the warmth of my family's support, the kindness of neighbors, and the guidance of teachers and colleagues who all conspired in their own ways to help me shape my path. I hold a Ph.D. in Crop Science, master's degree in Genetics and Biotechnology and bachelor's degree in biology. I have a combined work experience of 20+ years in academic, research and industry. I am married and a father of three daughters. Each of these milestones was not just a personal achievement but a testament to the backing I received from those who believed in me.

In my professional life, I currently serve at Sakata Seed America, Inc., where I delve into digital solutions and technologies in plant breeding, genetics and seed business. My experience has taught me that the world of agriculture is more than just science; it is a collaborative effort aimed at bettering our environment and community. I find joy in the work I do, and I continuously seek to implement knowledge that uplifts others and fosters sustainable development.

The legacy I aspire to carry forward is directly inspired by my father. He embodied the essence of creating a safe space through his unwavering love and support for others in the community. During times of famine, he extended himself to save lives and preserve dignity, becoming a beacon of hope, comfort, and education for those around him. Watching him work tirelessly to feed the hungry and educate the curious, I learned that true strength lies in compassion and the collective uplifting of humanity. It is this legacy that fuels my ambition to replicate such nurturing spaces in my own life and work.

I have also had the privilege of traveling and engaging with diverse cultures, which has expanded my understanding of what it means to belong and to create inclusivity. Each new encounter has further solidified my belief that when we cultivate environments of safety, we enable creativity and growth. I strive to ensure that my contributions to society reflect this belief, making the world just a little better than how we found it.
